It’s Election Eve! If you have received a thousand text messages, phone calls, and emails, you’re not alone. And I get it. It’s annoying.
I also have gotten annoyed at the numerous text messages myself, but then I realized the error in my thinking.
I forgot that people are volunteering their own time to stand up for what is right. Taking back our democracy, being on the side of the scientists and medical professionals who are dedicating their lives to fight this pandemic and save lives, fighting racism, slowing climate change, and so many other ideals that are at stake in this election.
I forgot I was one of those annoying people! I have made phone calls into Virginia voters and Pennsylvania voters. I want to know that I contributed to the cause!
So please think about this the next time you’ve been contacted in some form. People care enough to hear someone’s irritation about being called so much, to be cursed at, or to be hung up on!
it was all worth it when I spoke with Barbara in Pennsylvania. She told me that she tells people who tell her they are bothered with all of the calls or texts that so much is riding on this election. She wanted me to know that our efforts don’t go unnoticed.
I texted her “Thank you so much for taking my call and saying what you did! You made my day!
She texted, “You’re VERY welcome! Your smiling voice and enthusiasm made mine as well! I’m a firm believer of giving people their flowers. I understand the importance of what you’re doing, value your contribution, and couldn’t let that go unsaid. I’m glad in the midst of unanswered and disconnected calls I was able to provide you a tiny silver lining. We could all use a little kindness during these times.”
Thank you so much for your kindness Barbara. You inspire me to strive to be a better person!
