Ode to Single Women

To all single women, feeling lonely and blue,

Put down that ice cream, and listen to me thru;

Your life isn’t defined by whether coupled or not,

But rather defined by whether you fill it a lot.

It’s also not defined by whether you become a mother;

It just means your time was meant for some other.

There’s a lot that can fill it, I’ll just name a few,

But remember your life is truly uniquely you.

Fill it with family, friends, passion, and meaning;

These are the things that will keep your soul beaming.

You can paint the town, travel freely, and do things last minute,

Without checking with anyone before making a commitment.

You can focus on yourself, the return is so high;

You’ll become an amazing woman, no one can deny.

Those things are more worthy than those boys who brought you tears;

They weren’t right for you, and perhaps saved you years.

The unrequited love was worth it, you’ll realize,

The lessons you learned have value; they made you wise.

This doesn’t lessen coupled women or those who raise a family;

They can also lead full lives, with a different kind of glee.

Single ladies, you’re just as special as all other women;

You are truly wonderful, don’t think you’re a lemon.

Remember to walk tall with an ear to ear smile,

Like you’re walking through life self-assured all the while.

You may think that being single is tough during the holidays,

But staying with those who mistreat hurts in many ways.

So be grateful for what you have, it’s more than you think;

Your life can be wonderful, you’re just on the brink.

Remember your life is so very precious;

Do spend it wisely, it’s another important message.

Learn to love yourself, or you’ll be wasted space;

Once you’ve done that, you’ll always leave a trace.

Being single can be a happy life, you just have to believe;

Feeling the burn inside of you is one you’ll never want to leave.

So don’t waste away thinking this isn’t how it should be;

Trust me, you’re on your way to who you’re meant to be.
