My brother-in-law asked me, “How did you come up with the name for your blog?” I thought it was self-explanatory and shouldn’t be explained. Maybe I was wrong. Well, it’s hard to come up with something new. I wanted a name that really captured who I try to be. That word is authentic. Authentic, to me, means the core of who I am, raw in the spotlight. Good and bad. I wanted that authenticity to be brought to this site and this blog. I thought of the word ah. I googled “ah definition”, and the first result returned was “used to express a range of emotions including surprise, pleasure, sympathy, and realization”. I smiled. Ah, for me, is the inhale and exhale of those moments. The emotions I want to elicit and so much more. Authentic comprises the rest. Which is why the name had to be “AH-THENTIC”.
My AH-THENTIC moments are countless. Being electrified by the melody of a song and belting out to it on unending replay. Spoonfuls of cookie dough and chocolate peanut butter ice cream therapy while I sit on my couch in pajamas in front of the tv. Laughing uncontrollably with my family or friends at a sudden hilarious moment. Walking into a scene where something wonderfully unexpected happens, leaving me thinking, “Where did that come from?” The plaque pictured that my sister gave me. Wanting to be painted on a mural and come to life dancing to the song “I’m Alive” like in the scene from Xanadu. A bright blue, sunny sky with a few scattered cotton clouds. A succinct quote that is so profound and speaks volumes to me. Tears from a heart-wrenching movie scene. Tears from a heart-wrenching true story. Helping someone in need. And on and on.
After my explanation, my brother-in-law responded, “That’s your next blog. Write about that.”
